Conger’s Corner: TummyTime

  • Posted on May 18, 2017

Tummy time starts as soon as you bring your infant home.  We encourage all infants to sleep on their backs to prevent SIDS.  However, they need some time on tummies as well!  We recommend 20 min a day to help loosen neck muscles that may have been cramped in the womb.  If neck muscles are especially stiff then we may see an infant prefer to lay his head on one side and that will gradually flatten the skull.  If this is happening to your infant let us know.  We have special exercises that parents can do for their infant.  We may also want to start some physical therapy.  This significantly reduces the need for skull molding helmets!
