Does your child suffer from ‘Big Feelings” like anger or anxiety? Perhaps they need Big Bird!
Sesame Street is a nonprofit educational organization that’s been around almost 50 years. They have addressed emotional needs of children in the past with issues like divorce and incarceration and now they’ve come to help again. According to a new analysis, early half of children face at least one adverse childhood experience. This may include abuse, neglect, witnessing violence, parental substance abuse or mental illness. Not to mention all the stories in the news…shootings and natural disasters.
Chronic exposure can be toxic! Children are at higher risk for learning problems and even health issues like asthma and diabetes if these stressors are not addressed. But with the right tools, children can build coping skills and resiliency…
Sesame Street has a proven model to engage children and help them cope. They have free materials for both children and their families..in both English and Spanish. You can find them at sesamestreetincommunities.org/topics/traumatic-experiences.
Let’s work together to “help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.”
